Beyond Our Wildest Dreams
I lost my job a few months before my wedding. At the time, a very big IT firm was also retrenching 10-15% of their staff. In other words, I’ll have to compete with another 100-200 much more qualified IT professionals for jobs; on top of that, the market is also flooded with tens of thousands of new IT graduates. I’ve applied for more than 100 jobs, got a few interviews but all were fruitless. So I asked the church to pray for me.
Finally, my wife managed to ask her boss to create a sales and support job for me. Sales started to come in when I joined the company, so did support requests.
Then, I’ve received a phone call from a company that I applied to that there is still a vacancy. But there is a potential obstacle. I must first pass a medical examination. I have been growing thinner and thinner for some time now. Although I’ve increased my meal intake by eating supper everyday, I am still getting thinner and thinner and I don’t know why. When I took the medical checkup, the blood test revealed that my sugar level is very high. The doctor believed that I am diabetic, but he asked me to exercise a lot, change my diet and have my blood tested again in 2 weeks time. Unfortunately, he’ll still have to send this medical report to the company. I was worried as I was told that some companies would not want to hire diabetics.
But not long after, the company called me for a second interview and this time one of the top directors interviewed me. By the grace of GOD, not only was I hired, but they agreed to the salary I requested, even though it was more than what they initially budgeted for. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Church and everyone who prayed for me.
Financially, we were quite tight for our wedding. My wife’s Cell Leader offered to standby her credit card, just in case we don’t have enough cash to pay. But GOD is good and kind to us. Our relatives and friends blessed us so generously that the ‘ang pows’ were four times more of the tables we booked.
GOD also blessed us with a new apartment. It was ready not long before our wedding but it was scarcely furnished. In fact, all our furniture were old ones from our rented place before the wedding. I had to sleep on the floor when I first moved in. Without much money, we only planned to get a double bed in the master bedroom, and leave the hall empty. My friend who visited me had to sit on the floor. Then my aunt called up and told me, “Make sure everything is presentable for the wedding”. So I told her our situation. She then offered to give us new furniture as our wedding gift! My parents and brothers also contributed for the down payment of our apartment. Due to this, we could afford to get ourselves an air-con in the master bedroom. God is so good that HE took care of our needs and even gave us luxuries!
Since our budget was quite tight, we were planning for a local honeymoon. But one day, my eldest brother from the US called and said he will sponsor our honeymoon to the US, including our air fare. So, it’s an all expenses paid honeymoon to the US! We were even blessed with enough pocket money to travel from New York to Disneyland, Florida and we celebrated Christmas watching the famous Mickey Mouse Parade in Magic Kingdom and the lowering of the Waterford Crystal Ball during New Year Eve in Times Square. We could never afford all these! It is beyond our wildest dreams. GOD is so wonderful!
