The Church You Can Call ‘Home’

God’s Abundant Goodness

In 2007, my wife was appointed Youth Leader of the Mandarin Church.

A few of the youths live in Sg. Pelek, 80km away from my house in Puchong. Hence, every Saturday we make 4 trips up and down to pick them up for the meeting. This amounts to about 300km per week. Our petrol cost increased and so did our car maintenance cost. But we did not mind as this is our service to God.

At times, when the other boys cannot attend the youth meeting, their parents would call us not to drive all the way to pick up their child as it would not be worth the trouble to just pick up 1 person. However, we never felt it was too troublesome and we told their parents we are only afraid they might not want to come alone.

As we are just ordinary wage earners, the petrol cost to and from Sg. Pelek is taking a toll on our finances, so my wife asked God for a salary increment just enough to cover the petrol expenses. But God blessed her with double the amount required and her company decided to pay for the car maintenance as well! Indeed as the Bible says in John 14:14 – If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

God’s blessings did not end here.

Our apartment is on the fourth floor, there is no lift and the only way to go up is by climbing the staircase. Not long after our wedding, my father-in-law sold a piece of his rubber estate at a time when the price was very good. He blessed us and we managed to purchase a double-storey house with only a very small loan. This was a real blessing when my wife became pregnant, else it would have been very tiring for her to climb 4 floors to work and church every time.

This year, our bundle of joy came! A new private community based hospital had been opened near our house. We’ve been praying for its completion. This is because we are afraid the delivery cost for our baby will be too high, for we cannot afford to go to expensive hospitals like SJMC or Sunway and many people has told us horror stories of government hospitals manned by incompetent staff that endangered both baby and mother. We also prayed specifically that baby will be delivered normally and not through Caesarean, and that she will not come on a public holiday as the cost will be much higher! Thankfully, our prayers were answered.

It is my parents’ wish that we hold a banquet to celebrate our baby’s “full moon” as per Chinese traditional custom. So we picked, picked and picked and finally found a caterer within our budget. The food was great and our guests were very happy. Again, we were generously blessed with ‘ang pows’ from our family & relatives with which we are able to purchase a medical insurance policy for our baby.

As our parents are not living with us, we weighed the option of sending our baby to the baby sitter or getting a maid when my wife returns to work. The maid option seems to cost less. Our savings was just enough to pay for the agency fees and there was little left. Then suddenly, my wife’s company decided to give her a huge mid year bonus as their business had been very good lately. We also want to thank our church members who have been providing all our baby’s needs. Although she is 5 months old now, so far we only paid for a few items only, as most of everything else such as clothing, diaper, stroller, baby chair, playpen; given or loaned; have more than adequately meet our needs!

God has been so good to me and my family. I could continue to write more. His goodness never ends. I believe all these started when we decided to be obedient to HIM. He gives good things and takes good care of all who obey Him and serve Him faithfully. Ephesians 3:20 says He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask for! It is our choice – to obey Him or not!
