God’s Lost & Found Department
Those who know me well know that there are two things I hate spending money on: Cars and mobile phones! I had been carrying a relatively bulky Nokia mobile phone for quite a while, it was something my husband won at an annual dinner lucky draw some years back. The phone was really beginning to act up & parts of it were starting to fall off. About two months back I was in Singapore on a business trip. On the way to the airport we were talking about mobile phones & I made the comment that it was high time I replaced mine & we were discussing what was the cheapest possible 3G option (so that the phone works when I have to go to the US on business!)
My phone must have taken offence at the insult – as I was rummaging through my handbag to switch off the phone prior to take-off, lo & behold the phone was no where to be found! I used my colleague’s phone to call mine & could not hear a thing. When we landed my colleague said he had a missed call on this phone at about the time the plane left Singapore. I thought to myself then, sure gone case already. Anyway, given that I was complaining about the hardware just earlier that evening I kind of prayed only half-heartedly for the phone to be found somehow, only because it would be really painful to try to re-construct the entire contacts list from scratch.
Later that night my husband got a call from a mutual friend I had met for dinner the night before in Singapore. My phone had been found in Changi airport! Coincidentally my brother in law who lives in Singapore was coming back that week-end to attend a family wedding. He kindly picked up the phone for me & I got it back within 3 days of having lost it in another country!
The story does not end there – being the procrastinator that I am when it comes to spending money on things I do not like I took my time trying to find a suitable replacement phone. It had to be a Nokia because I was too lazy to learn how to use another model – unfortunately most 3G phones cost more than RM1,000 which I felt was a total waste of money. One day when I was having lunch with my boss he mentioned that he just got a fancy new phone which he really had no need for – as it had been paid for and could not be returned he asked my immediate boss whether he would like to have it – my immediate boss had no need for it either & asked me whether I would like the phone or not. Talk about an answer to an unasked prayer! I happily accepted which is why I am now the thankful owner of a fancy (but still bulky) new Nokia!
Finally, last week, we decided to bring my dear son who is just under two to prayer meeting because we felt sorry for him being left home alone all the time – the boy created a bit of a ruckus and as a final act, threw up all over the carpet (sigh). On the bright side it gave us the opportunity to appreciate the kindness and consideration of our fellow church members (thanks Fang Woei, Ping Lum, Su Lyn, Tyan Min & Esther!) – unfortunately, in the process of cleaning up, my silver ring got lost! I called Tyan Min & told her about it – she informed me that Simon would be cleaning the prayer meeting hall that Sat morning & would ask him to check – later that evening she called – my ring had been found!
In times such as these, God’s wonderful consideration for even the small not so very important concerns of my life really brings a smile to my face. Best of all He has a great sense of humour & impeccable timing – getting the old phone back & a canggih new phone free was absolutely lovely. Also my lost ring was returned on Mother’s day – such a wonderful little gift for a special day! Truly HE is GOOD and worthy of all praise!
