Our Miracle of 5 Loaves And 2 Fishes
My heart leapt with excitement. During the office devotion, Pastor Louisa shared on the feeding of 5,000 people using a little boy’s lunch of five loaves of bread and two fishes. Jesus gave thanks for the food, blessed it and handed over to the disciples to distribute to the crowd. After the disciples have distributed the food, they managed to collect twelve basketful of leftover lunch. Imagine what the boy’s mother would have thought as the boy led the procession of twelve baskets of food back to his home. What an exhilarating scene! How exciting it is when God performs His amazing acts of miracles. I don’t know why this story captivated my heart in a special way and filled it with anticipation that something miraculous was about to happen to my family.
About this time, the church has a rallying call to raise funds for Eagles’ Dialysis Centre (EDC) – the church’s community work to assist those with kidney problems. I discussed with my husband and children and we decided to answer the call again i.e. to contribute financially. It was not a big sum but nevertheless, it was enough to make a big hole in the wallet.
Later, my family had to provide transport to a close relative to a family dinner. Along the way, she said, "With your children growing up, I think you should get a new MPV, like Avanza, and I would like to pay for it. How about that?" I thought I misheard the offer. How could something so extravagant and amazing happen to us? It took some time for the offer to sink into my heart and it was a 100% genuine offer to give us a C-A-R.
In due time, we decided on getting the Perodua Alza. Our benefactor was pleased with the choice of the car. After putting the down payment for the car (we’re really getting the Alza!), I was reminded of the twelve basketfuls of leftover food from the feeding of the 5,000 people. Could it be? I did a mental calculation and for added accuracy, used a calculator. Guess what?! The Alza is more than twelve basketfuls in relation to the amount my family pledged for EDC.
God is good and GREAT all the time!
