A YES that changed everything.
Matt 6:33 – But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.
For most of my working life, I lived out of a suitcase, constantly on the move. So when retirement came suddenly, I felt lost—unsure of my purpose and without a clear sense of meaning in life.
When Pastor Hong Seng asked me to serve God after I retired, I couldn’t give him an answer. I prayed for weeks, and during that time God kept nudging my heart. I didn’t feel ready, and I was afraid. But Matthew 6:33 taught me that obedience comes before understanding. I had no idea how to run a dialysis centre. I didn’t know how to manage nurses, patients, or carry the weight of such responsibility—it felt completely overwhelming. Yet that day, when Pastor asked again, I said yes.
As I stepped out in obedience, God held my hand. He went before me, granting me favour and grace beyond my ability. As I sought His kingdom first, He supplied everything I lacked—wisdom, strength, and confidence—just as He promised in Matthew 6:33.Today, I also help FGT manage a café. All these responsibilities now fill my entire week. What once felt like emptiness after retirement has been replaced with purpose, rhythm, and joy in serving.
Recently, a friend remarked, “You’ve really done well—and you look happier after your retirement.” I could only smile and reflect on that single yes. A yes that changed everything. When I chose to seek God’s kingdom first, He not only gave me work to do, but renewed meaning, fulfillment, and joy—far beyond what I could have planned for myself.
